Stylish magnet boards: our top picks

Once upon a time the trusty refrigerator not only kept our colby cold, but also doubled as a shrine to family life, thanks to magnets. Its door, adorned with a rotation of bits and bobs from wedding invites and kids art to shopping lists and overdue electricity bills, brought warmth and life the heart of the home by virtue of it's magnetism.

Increasingly these days modern fridges are hidden discretely behind cupboard doors, meaning the gradual disappearance of this sentimental display surface. We love sleek lines and uncluttered kitchens, but remain committed to the idea that every home needs a dedicated space to display everyday treasures and reminders.

We met Joey from Growme Melbourne on Instagram soon after launching Wordbits. Trained as an architect, her sturdy and beautifully designed Moodyboards have thoughtful touches such as a shelf ledge for keys, pens and other displays, and an optional mirror attachment.

This one blew my mind when I discovered it... magnetic wallpaper! Officially called Systexx Active Magnetic and manufactured in Germany by Vitrulan it's available in smooth or textured surface finish, the paper is applied to walls like standard wallpaper that can be painted over with regular paint. Styled here alongside Wordbits in the London home of Victoria Summer.

Magnetic Magic by Resene

Make the entire room your canvas with Resene's Magnetic Magic. Apply as an undercoat then layer with you choice of regular paint on top. We have used this clever product on a trade show booth to create a fun and immersive experience. Please note that Magnetic Magic (or any other magnetic paint) is not as strongly magnetic as a steel surface, so the magnets are for decorative purposes rather than holding anything up on the wall. Perfect for signage or to add playfulness to retail spaces and kids bedrooms.
